We offer a complete and intensive service, currently running our Tier 1 3 day steadicam course. The course is a well respected and recognised service that we take great pride in. We work with highly experienced operators who are ACO affiliated to bring an immense level of on set and technical experience.

This course is essential in getting to grips with steadicam to begin your personal journey learning and developing as an operator.

The course covers a wide curriculum curated with collaboration with the course leaders to maximise the coverage and essential skills. We have also created visual diagrams for practice movements and shots that can be sent via email or printed for students to keep and use during independent practice at our main office.

It is Perfect for anyone looking to take the dive into becoming an operator but also a great opportunity for those who are interested in becoming adept as an assistant with the added benefit of keeping operating on the horizon.

For afterwards if you continue the journey, the great team that work in rentals and sales support you by being able to book slots for free to practice with the best rigs and vests at the Optical Support base. I have just begun but thanks to these guys am able to continue my journey with support.

The program covers a wide range of aspects in steadicam operating, from fundamental skills such as holding the frame to more complex manoeuvres such as working with a rickshaw. The training program at Optical Support is definitely one of the best programs to enter if you wish to learn about steadicam. The staff at Optical Support welcomed me to the world of steadicam with open arms and continue to support me as a steadicam operator long after the program.

I attended the Optical Support and thoroughly recommend it. It is an intensive programme which can be tailored to each individual’s skill and knowledge level. It is a very practical course with a lot of time spent flying the Steadicam rig. The instructors are fantastic and I progressed from barely being able to hold the Steadicam level to completing a complex shot involving all types of moves within two days! The flexibility and the intensiveness of the course, coupled with Optical Support’s unparalleled on-hand expertise, makes it the perfect introduction to operating Steadicam and pursuing it as a career.

Jasper was a great teacher covering everything from the ground up giving us lots of opportunities to ask questions and clarify the complicated topics. Especially useful with fitting vests and what's involved in keeping good posture in the rig. I found having two peers on the course with me really helped me to understand how to do things efficiently or which problems to look out for. If I was struggling with hand position they could learn from my instruction, even if they weren't having the same issue. I also found that I was learning as much while resting from the rig as I was while moving with the steadicam. We covered an awful lot in three days, fully preparing us for self guided practice in the future. I feel that I’ve been provided all of the mental tools required to learn in my own time without developing bad habits or dangerous practices. I’d highly recommend this course to anybody looking to make their first steps into steadicam as either an assistant or operator.

Optical Support’s Tier 1 Steadicam Course was an incredible experience that gave me a strong foundation for my journey toward camera operating. Over three immersive days, I gained a solid understanding of Steadicam operation, with hands-on time to test various rigs and vests to find the best fit for my body.
